A few weeks ago, I was catching up on /report‘s podcasts and, in the Fannish History ep, one of the ladies (I apologize for not remembering who it was) mentioned how modern fandom didn’t have a centralized place currently. I totally agree with that but that’s not what this post is about.
What I want to talk about is what I’d like to see if we had a centralized place for fans like us. (btw, if you’re looking for a current place to ‘hang out’ with fans, check out longformfandom!)
I know pillowfort.io is in the works but, until it goes live, here is my wishlist for creating/having a modern fandom community.
First, I’d want it to incorporate twitter. I’d like to be able to plug into the internet hive mind to find, speak to/with, and share with my fellow fans. I love how I can see who is following a certain person (and who they are following) so I can try to find fans I remember from back in the day and new fans too.
Next, I’d want it have a weblog feature like tumblr. I love how tumblr allows me to share my love for more than just a specific fandom and find new fandoms I’d never even thought of before I saw it on tumblr.
Also, TAGS! It must utilize tags and possibly have a bundled tag feature. Remember when it was del.icio.us and it had the bundled tag feature? I’d like something like this please.
Finally, I’d like to be able to communicate with my fellow fans the way LJ and it’s clones allowed fans to do so back in the day but incorporate it in more than just a specific fandom so I can have a connection that goes beyond the picture or web link seen on a weblog.
Um, that’s all I can think of for now but what about you? Do you have a wishlist too?
